Q: Am I Morbidly Obese?

*more than 100 lbs. over your ideal body weight, or

*have a Body Mass Index (BMI) of over 40, or

*have a BMI of over 35 and are experiencing severe health problems, such as high blood pressure or diabetes ( related to being severely overweight )

*unable to achieve a healthy body weight for a sustained period of time, even through medically supervised dieting

Q: Why Surgery?

A: Morbid Obesity is a disease. It makes it harder for some people to satisfactorily lose weight through conventional dieting and exercise without gaining it back with a few extra pounds to add up. Most patients have tried many diets without achieving and maintaining a healthy weight.

The health risks due to morbid obesity can be reduced and, in some cases, eliminated with the weight loss that will be achieved after a Bariatric procedure.

Q: Will My Diet Change After Surgery?

A: Yes, you will need serious changes in your eating habits after your surgery. The modifications made to your gastrointestinal tract will require permanent changes in your eating habits that must be adhered to for successful weight loss.

Focus on long term lifestyle changes. Bariatric surgery will bring about a significant weight loss over time. It is important to follow a balanced diet high in protein and low in fat, calories, fiber and sugar to ensure that weight loss is safe and successful. Learning new eating habits will help maintain weight loss over time.

Q: Will My Skin and Hair Change?

A:Skin will shrink naturally with continuous weight loss. Younger skin is more elastic, but exercise and a good nutrition, combined with good skin care will aide it to shrink more efficiently through time. Smoking is a factor that takes elasticity away from the skin.

Hair will experience some thinning as a result of the body going through big nutritional changes. Skin and nails will also lose moisture. It takes the body some time to adjust to the changes the surgery brings due to the smaller amounts of nutrients it will receive, but after a healthy weight has been reached, the body will return to normal.

Q: Will My Weight Come Back?

A: Many factors contribute to regaining weight after surgery. With proper nutrition and exercise, weight gain should not happen. The procedures we perform are state of the art and will reduce the possibility of weight gain.

The stomach will stretch when old eating habits are resumed, and/or there is a lack of exercise. Following a healthy life style will reduce or eliminate the possibility of regaining weight.
